Talking Android: The first barcode reader and email reader
Category:software applications | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 114 wordsThe first barcode reader and email reader for blind and visually impaired users of Google's Android operating system for mobile phones and devices have been developed in the US. The readers were created by Apps4Android, a subsidiary of IDEAL Group focused on developing applications for disabled users. The IDEAL Item Identifier allows smartphone users to scan barcodes and identify products, while the IDEAL K9 E-Mail reader is compatible with Google's open source screen-reader Talkback and other Android screen reading products. Burning Data to a DVD in Windows XP
Category:software applications | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 230 wordsWindows XP gives us an accessible way to burn data and audio files to a CD. In fact, burning data to a CD can be done right from Windows Explorer. Audio CDs are burned with the help of Windows Media Player, which can be a bit more confusing for someone using a screen reader, but it can be done nevertheless.
One of the most frustrating things that still remains for Windows XP is that you can't burn data directly to a DVD. This is very unfortunate because of the amount of storage space on a DVD. Well, the folks at MiniDVDSoft.com are out to change this with a FREE program.
Free DVD Burner is an ideal tool to burn data DVD/CDs. It can easily burn files onto most DVD/CD discs such as CD R,CD-RW,DVD-R,DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW.
With Free DVD Burner, you can use a screen reader and burn DVD/CDs from files and folders for backing up your data on DVD/CD. Free DVD Burner allows you
to burn data DVD/CDs in a few minutes and it's completely FREE. Simply select the files and folders you want to put on a DVD/CD and press the "Start Burn"
button and let the program do the rest.
Click on the link below to download the program.

Accessible PDF Reader from Claro
Category:software applications | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 281 wordsPDF files are great for printing but they can be really difficult to use if you want them read out to you or you want to change the colours and fonts used. Many people, such as people with dyslexia, find it easier to work with text when it is spoken aloud or has different colours or contrast.
Accessible PDF is a free program from Claro Software that lets you read PDFs with the colours and fonts you want and makes it easy to read the text aloud with other programs such as ClaroRead. You can zoom in and out, use high- or low-contrast colours, and save your PDF as text or a web page for future use. You can even follow internal contents links to let you navigate the document.
Based on the PDFTOHTML program, which in turn uses the XPDF program from Foo labs, Accessible PDF is free open-source software released under the GNU Public Licence version 3, so you can use it for free for business and personal use.
- Download the Accessible PDF Installer (Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or Vista)
- Accessible PDF Source Code (Zip file)
Here is Accessible PDF having opened a PDF file. The colours have been adjusted to a low-contrast combination that can help some people with reading problems. The font selection shows how you can pick any size or font that suits you.

Some people, such as screenreader users, simply want the text content of the PDF file or want a simplified and much-magnified appearance. Here's Accessible PDF showing the same PDF file with extra-large text, high contrast and also a caret, allowing you to browse around and read the PDF just like a Word document.

BoxCloud: Send Large files Without Uploading Anything
Category:software applications | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 279 wordsAt work, we might sometimes be required to send large files such as proposals, photos, video clips, etc to counterparts in other countries. There are plenty
of ways to accomplish this task. Folks will either use email services such as Gmail, which allows users to send files up to 20MB, or by using File Transfer
Protocol (FTP). There are problems with both of these methods.
When using Gmail, the recipient may never receive the message telling them they have a file waiting because of spam blockers. They will most certainly have to wait while the file downloads and in some cases, they can't even download the file at all because of network security.
FTP requires both sender and recipient to have some technical knowledge and an understanding of either Windows Explorer or some FTP software package.
To easily deliver and send large files, I have come across a useful file sharing tool, BoxCloud, which users can use for free.
The program is different from many file sharing tools as this program does not require you to upload your file, which consumes time. The application allows
users to host their files on their own PC and share them with reliable parties via a small application. Users can decide which files to be shared and who
can share these files: a single person or a group of people.
BoxCloud is free for 1 workspace and up to 3 contacts. The program is safe to use and the only drawback is the size of your hard drive. Remember, the faster
your internet connection, the faster file transfers you will see.

Hack that Google
Category:software applications | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 137 wordsAccording to the encyclopedia-defineterm TechEncyclopedia, hacking often refers to writing a small program or adding code to an existing program to solve a problem in a hurry. A hack implies writing in a low-level programming language rather than a high-level macro language or application generator that is oriented to the user.
Google Hacks is a compilation of carefully crafted Google searches that expose novel functionality from Google's search and map services. For example, you can use it to view a timeline of your search results, view a map, search for audio, search for books, and perform many other specific kinds of searches.
Google Hacks is tiny, open source, and free to use. If you're a power searcher, grab it now! Windows, Mac, Linux.
