Convert Documents and RSS Feeds into MP3s at ReadTheWords.com
Category:interesting websites | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 192 words"ReadTheWords.com began as a simple concept in January 2008: To assist students with learning disabilities with their studies, by means of auditory learning
and auditory processing.
ReadtheWords is a free service that converts text into MP3. All you've got to do is sign up and select what files you want to convert. Read works with PDF
documents, Word, HTML files, and even RSS feeds. From there, you'll need to select from one of 15 readers (luckily, you're not stuck with a single, boring
voice and there are even accents) and pick your language; French, English or Spanish. Next, pick the speed of the reader, your mp3 will be created in minutes.
Finally, download your mp3 to your portible MP3 player, post your reading on your blog, make a podcast, or simply listen to it online. It's that easy.
ReadtheWords is definitely one cool and practical application. Not only does it help people with disabilities, it's also great for taking blogs or feeds
on the go. You'll be able to listen to your files at work or on the beach. It's perfect for multitasking.

KeyXL: The Keyboard Shortcut Database
Category:interesting websites | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 145 wordsKeyboard shortcuts can be very useful, particularly if you're blind or visually impaired or use a laptop and don't have a mouse. If you use an application
regularly then learning useful keyboard shortcuts will not only allow you to work much faster, but can even unlock additional functionality within a given
program.
The problem is that most programs don't provide their shortcuts in an accessible format. This is where KeyXL comes in, with its huge database of keyboard
shortcuts for hundreds of applications.
Keyxl.com is the largest online database of keyboard shortcuts in the world. It's database is searchable by software title and covers all the major operating
ssystems including Windows, Macintosh, Linux and browser-based applications. The shortcuts are also grouped by application type e.g. web browsers, email
programs, photo/imaging etc.

DJs From Around the World Create Playlists for You at SpinJay.com
Category:interesting websites | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 99 wordsFrom the website:
At SpinJay, we believe that the best way to get exciting new music is to have a real person pick it for you, instead of some complicated computer algorithm.
This belief, that real people are far better than computers at deciphering what people want, guides everything we do here at SpinJay. Here, people request
playlists, people create playlists, people vote on playlists, and people enjoy playlists. Computers only act as the middleman. And for something as personal
as music, that's the way it should be.

One Stop for Free Assistive Technology
Category:interesting websites | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 213 wordsCommercial Assistive Technology contributes, significantly, to enhancing the quality-of-life, independence and employability of millions of people with
disabilities. Unfortunately, many individuals, social organizations, schools and government agencies can not afford to purchase it. Further more, there
are many additional situations that preclude people with disabilities from accessing, using or continuing to use commercial AT. For example, when K-12
schools purchase AT for use by their students, the schools own the AT. Often this situation precludes students with disabilities from being able to take
the school's AT home with them to complete homework assignments, or to their local libraries to help them study and surf the web with their friends.
When students graduate from high school, they no longer have access to the AT that contributed to their success and independence as part of their K-12 education.
The ability for high school students with disabilities to transition from high school to college, or into work environments, can also be negatively impacted.
1 Stop for Free Assistive Technology is a website with a collection of programs that are free to use and are accessible to people with disabilities. You'll
find everything from screen readers to free OCR programs.

Finding Audio on the Net is a SkreemR
Category:interesting websites | Posted by: babagrr | Add comment 271 wordsSkreemR is a search engine for locating audio files on the web. They don't actually host files, they index what exists on the publicly accessible reaches
of the internet. Their goal is to make this content as searchable and useable to the internet community as possible.
They don't just want you to find and experience music and audio that interests you. SkreemR wants to launch you into the internet music community. When
you find something you really like, check out some suggestions of where you can buy the music and support the artists. Visit the sites that host the audio
content and read what they and others are saying about the music you love. Find out facts about the artist and their songs, find concert tickets, and share
your experience with your friends.
AudioRank is SkreemR's scoring system to help put the best quality, most reliable files at the top of the results. They give every file in their search
results a score from 0 to 100. The higher the score, the better the file. Simply put, AudioRank does all the work of figuring out if a search result is
likely to be a full length song (as opposed to a partial clip), is playable in their flash player, is of good all round audio quality, and has found previous
acceptance among users.
So not only does SkreemR give you the best music search experience by presenting only valid, working links, they have upped the ante by saving you the trouble
of sorting through results looking for a good file.
