Allah structured Surat An-Naba’ (78th Chapter of the Qur’an) in perfect literary symmetry centered on Judgment Day.

In this video Ustadh Nouman explains how those who sarcastically question the afterlife in the beginning of the surah, are left speechless on the Day they had denied throughout a life spent in forgetfulness and disobedience.

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 4: Surat At-Takwir (the 18th chapter of the Qur’an)

On Judgment Day we are not only accountable for what we know we did in this life, but also for the consequences of each and every action, whether good or bad. Ustadh Nouman says that on that day it is the weight of those ramifications that will either send us to Jannah (Paradise) or to Jahannam (Hell-fire).

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 7: Surat Al-Inshiqaq

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 7: Surat Al-Inshiqaq

In the first five verses of Surat Al-Inshiqaq Allah paints one of the most powerful pictures of nature in the entire Qur’an.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan explains in depth the scene on the Day of Judgment when the sky tears open and the earth can no longer bear the burden of everything inside it. The idea that nature is this wild beast that Allah has held back is a recurring theme in the Quran and here, Allah describes how nature will react once He it hears Allah’s permission.

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 6: Surat Al-Mutaffifin

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 6: Surat Al-Mutaffifin (the 83rd chapter of the Qur’an)

In this video Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan explains how the state of believers in Jannah is contrasted with the fate of those who spread injustice and deny Allah’s message. When they die, their good souls will join the most exalted angels, who will show them their good deeds, guaranteeing that they will enjoy Allah’s endless gifts in Jannah after resurrection.

Allah describes how on that day, they will look down and laugh at those who mocked them in this life, satisfied to know that justice has been served.

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 8: Surat Al-Buruj

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 8: Surat Al-Buruj (the 85th chapter of the Qur’an)

In the final verses of Surat Al-Buruj, an extremely Forgiving and intensely Loving Allah tells believers who were persecuted for His sake that their suffering has cleansed them of all their sins.

In his interpretation, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan makes a connection between Allah’s grand throne and the Qur’an, both of which are described as “Majeed” (Noble). Allah does not promise to destroy those who deny Him, but has instead sent His majestic Qur’an to guide them back towards him and give them a chance to repent.

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 9: Surat At-Tariq

Ramadan with the Qur’an – Day 9: Surat At-Tariq

In this video, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan explains the second half of surat At-Tariq, where Allah takes an oath by the power of rain falling from the sky. Just as rain benefits the earth, revelation benefits humanity and brings dead hearts back to life.

The Qur’an separates truth from falsehood and good from evil. In contrast with the first part of the surah where Allah describes the weakness of humans whom He created from a drop of liquid, these verses emphasize the decisive power of revelation.

In this video Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the core of what it means to do “tasbeeh“, to declare the perfection of Allah’s name.

He explains how it is completely different from saying that Allah is perfect, stressing that it is inappropriate to make up your own names for Allah. There is a certain decorum we must follow when addressing our creator and revelation will teach us what the parameters are.
